20. I will be growing valuable tropical plants in my greenhouse. What about security? Should vandals break a glass pane, replacement takes only a few minutes. 21. How is a glass pane replacement made so easy? Because you do not have to use messy putty that often holds glass so stiffly that it cracks. Edenlite panes are clipped in, so that they are easily removed but at the same time completely weatherproof. 22. What about lighting? It is worth arranging lighting in your greenhouse not only to enable you to attend to your plants during the long evenings of winter, but also because lights can be used to speed the growth of various plants out of season. For most requirements 100 watt lamps are suitable, but there are also available specially designed plant radiators of various wattages. A time switch is also a useful addition. 23. How do I install electricity in my greenhouse? Unless you have specialised knowledge, it is best to leave electrical installation to a professional electrician. Because of the high level of moisture in the garden and around plants it is essential that all fittings and cables are waterproof. Mains cables can be run either under or over ground, although the former is neater and less obtrusive. Underground cable is specially designed for the job and is protected against chemical damage and moisture. 24. What about automatic watering? Completely automatic systems are available, which control both the amount and the frequency of watering. For propagation purposes special ,mist’ spray heads can be used in conjunction with the watering system. 25. How can I be sure that the greenhouse I buy is of the highest quality? Most plants can be cultivated in a scientifically prepared compost. Dirty water should also be avoided, and you should make every effort to ensure a sterile environment. There are many commercially available pesticides, which can be dispensed in various ways - for example via a special ‘lamp’, which volatilises insecticide and suspends it in the atmosphere. 28. How can I keep my greenhouse cool during hot weather? It is a good idea to damp down the atmosphere by sprinkling water on the floor, shelving and staging units. Shade is also important, and can be achieved by means of Eden’s shade cover or solarscreen paint applied to the exterior of the greenhouse. 29. Can I prepare plants for gardening outside? Yes, It’s called propagation. You use your greenhouse to grow sturdy seedlings until they’re strong enough to go outdoors. That way, you can start summer early. 30. How long will my glasshouse last?
